The kiss. Where would we be without kisses and lots of them? Hell! There are even candy kisses. (I’m a chocolate snob, so I don’t go for Hershey’s kisses, but give me anything made from Lindt chocolate and that is a different story). So many types of kisses it’s hard to describe in such a short space.
There’s the traditional French kiss, you know a quick peck on either or both cheeks. A more intimate, more European greeting than just a spontaneous handshake. This kiss allows you to feel nestled into a culture that otherwise would seem more foreign. This kiss says that we are bringing you into the fold. I love this greeting its sweet, warm and embracing all at once. There is the goodbye kiss. Where you are running out the door late for work and your partner is still in his jammies fixing breakfast. This is the “Honey, I still love you, but I’m running late for work” type of kiss. Not much emotion here, more of a formality. But a way to recognize that you are still thinking about your partner.
There are the very wet and sloppy kisses of a child or an excited puppy, when they are still learning about love and affection. These ones are so cute, you can watch as the little ones firmly fix their gaze on you as they try to plant a kiss. It’s not unlike watching the first landing of a space shuttle on the moon. It is so very precise and requires just the right timing. They come towards you in slow motion every molecule of their body a delightful balancing act as they try to reproduce something that they have seen. Even then, the kiss they were trying to land on your cheek ends up on your ear. But then there’s my favorite of all, it’s spontaneous and natural with absolutely no hidden agenda.
Then of course, there is the passionate kiss. Did you notice I saved this one till last?? The passionate kiss. Please let me repeat myself. This is the soul shuddering “You rock my world” kiss. Lips pass over each other like old friends seeking a treasured moment while hands glide delicately over silky sleek skin. Kisses feel like melted butter or tantalizing cheeky moments. Entire novels have been written in this moment. The kiss that communes two souls and speaks languages of love throughout the ages. The kiss that transcends time and leaves you weak at the knees, begging for more. Melting into each other soul’s your love and passion transpires to waves of delicious and overwhelming feelings of arousal and pleasure. They sneak up on you and then drench you in those lovemaking moments. This is when you feel alive, passionate and colorful.
You lose track of beginnings and endings and all things seem to merge. You become the kiss itself sensual and sexy and goddamn so addictive. If they had a Kissers Anonymous, I’m sure it would be full!! (By now, you are probably looking at the person opposite you and wondering if they would be kissable). Kissing, I feel is more intimate than love-making. In every culture kissing plays an important role in uniting people in the language of love. Needless to say, don’t forget when the opportunity arises to kiss those that you love. It truly is a beautiful gift.
